More Able and Talented Pupils
We closely assess our pupils at several times during the academic year so that we can not only identify any difficulties they may be having but also identify if they have particular talent or gift in a curriculum area.
At Williamstown we are keen for these pupils to strive for the very best and we provide opportunities to further ehance these skills.
To support our MAT pupils we:
Provide 'World of words' sessions- these are for our most confident and very able readers. These sessions further develop higher order reading skills.
Provide a wide range of musical lessons- We have a music teacher who visits school to teach a range of instruments and allow talented musicians to flourish.
Provide additional and challenging problem solving sessions- We have a partnership with a local comprehensive who comes to our school to teach our most talented mathematicians and further challenge them.
Provide a 'Book Club'- We have recently created a 'Book Club' for children who have very able reading and comprehension skills. This group is led by Mrs Tunner and allows our pupils to further develop a range of higher order reading skills such as inference. The pupils suggested this as something they would enjoy doing and led the clubs choices of text.
